The developing seed heads or "plumes" of the Miscanthus sinenensis 'Zebrinus' arch over the cross-banded leaves in autumn. All of the grasses are left uncut over the winter, providing architectural interest with their dried stalks and leaves. |
Erianthus ravennae, which grows 12'-14', makes a bold statement as a specimen plant in the lawn. In the Spring, all grasses are cut back to the ground, but quickly shoot up to their full height within weeks. |

Arundo donax 'Versicolor' also grows well as a specimen plant in the lawn when given plenty of water. This plant is often mistaken for corn by Scotsman's guests! He also grows the plain green variety. |

Here, Miscanthus sp. (left) and Aster Tartaricus (right) frame the walkway to the chicken house. |
